Eat Asia Night Market: Review
So, today is the day in which many people will be shopping for Black Friday sales, but straying away from my recent birthday blog posts, I thought I would review a recent event which I attended last Friday. Some of you may remember that I was advertising the Eat Asia Night Market event with a giveaway as well! But fortunately, as a blogger I received a staff card giving me the privilege to attend the event, for free!
I was actually rather surprised at the turnout, I expected more attending the actual event, but the amount of people at the event was constantly increasing. I was fortunate to be skipping the queues. If I'm honest, my friend and I went to the wrong location... We went to the building across the road from the event... And once we realised that the queue was for the event, we were pretty astounded.
Now onto the main focus of this event! The main reason why I was so interested about this event was the fact it was dedicated to food, specifically from Asia (although there happened to be an appearance of Mexican food, although I have no concern for it even so). If you don't know me, I'm honestly a food fanatic, you'll always see me taking pictures of all the food I eat with the DSLR camera... Trust me it's an interesting sight, especially when all eyes are on you holding a giant camera just to take a picture of a single dish...
If I'm honest, I'm pretty proud of the pictures I managed to take that day, I think each of the people I asked to take pictures of their food just smiled or laughed at me. I guess I could say I'm a very typical Asian aha. The one that made me sad though, was the fact I missed the opportunity of having one of the vendors pose for a picture holding their hand up with a peace sign! Unfortunately I was too slow, but it made me laugh that all the vendors were very welcoming.
The two dishes I opted on getting for myself included a Malaysian dish as well as a Japanese dish. Unfortunately I didn't consider whether the Malaysian dish would be spicy - unfortunately I'm not very good at eating spicy food, even the slightest taste of spice makes me squirm... I couldn't finish it so luckily I had my friend to finish it for me so the food wouldn't go to waste - that would have made me so distraught if I knew I was wasting food...
The Japanese dish, I bought was advertised near the corner of the event. The small boxes were arranged at the front of the event, and to be honest, Japanese food has to one of my favourite types of food available so of course I had to have a try! The dish I opted upon was the "oyako-don" which is described as "delicately simmered marinated chicken and onion omelette, garnished seaweed crisps and chive. For some reason, I was really full, but because the packaging was really convenient I was able to bring it with me home to eat. The Bubble Tea Magazine also provided us with bags at a separate stall which made it easier to carry food and other belongings around - especially if you didn't bring a bag yourself.
The other dishes available included the tempura don as well as the chicken-katsu don. I'm usually a big fan of chicken katsu but I thought I would try another Japanese dish whilst I had the chance! And I don't regret my choice. I was really lucky that the vendor only charged me £4 for the oyako-don rather than the displayed £5 - maybe it was my lucky day aha!
Another thing which brought me to the night market was the fact they offered a unique dish which I've heard much about but didn't think they would have it available in the UK. Some of you may recognise this dish, known as the ramen burger. It looked interesting however at £7 per burger, quite a few of us were wondering if it was really worth the price...
Moving onto desserts, I remember trying out Hong Kong waffles in Chinatown, and I was really pleased to know they offered them at the event. However, at this event they offered more varieties whilst in Chinatown they were limited to normal flavoured Hong Kong waffles or nutella flavoured ones. I wish I had more room in my stomach to eat, they looked delicious, and despite not having a sweet tooth, they did look incredibly appealing - plus from past experiences I've always enjoyed the taste, and the texture is pretty original compared to the usual waffle styles.
The event had so much variety I wasn't even able to take the chance to try everything, if I had the money, the time and the stomach I would have honestly tried everything. From Korean chicken skewers to Japanese snacks to confectionaries, I'm really thankful for this opportunity.
Thank you for reading my blog post! Tune in to my next birthday updates - yes I'm still a post behind, and I have an upcoming birthday this Sunday... I'll aim to stay on top of the game, hope you enjoyed reading it and looking at the pictures - I know a lot of people who were regretting missing this event or not knowing about this opportunity because honestly the variety was unbelievable!

Interesting blog, it reminds me of Myeongdong Night Market in Seoul , in the dense grid of streets in Myeongdong, the food stalls lined-up in the middle of hotels, skin care shops, restaurants, cafés and night clubs.
ReplyDeleteI tried to write a blog about it, hope you also like it in https://stenote.blogspot.com/2019/11/seoul-at-myeongdong-night-time.html.
