Nowadays with each summer's day going by, we are fortunate enough to experience good weather, with some sunshine and breeze (especially with how unpredictable the British weather is, we are lucky if we have constant nice weather...) But what's good about having nice weather if you don't do something worthwhile with it. So my friends and I hosted a meetup at Green Park holding a picnic. The weather was cloudy but we had some sunshine, enough for us to require the need for shade.
Holding a picnic doesn't go without playing some jams from our phones with the use of a portable speaker as well as the necessity to bring food and drink. So everyone got together and contributed a variety of food, from Asian snacks and pastries to the usual picnic snacks e.g. crisps and packaged savoury snacks.
But it doesn't just stop there, it didn't mean photos weren't taken? Come on, we are a bunch of Asians, some of which owning DSLRs and all of us owning phones, there was bound to be selfies.
But it doesn't stop there, there was many attempts on freeline skates, several people competing to see who could stay on the longest on the freeline skates - trust it was terribly difficult, balance is key and practice makes perfect.
However, the day didn't end there, we still had karaoke to look forward to. For karaoke, we went to a karaoke place called Superstar which is also a restaurant located in Chinatown. The karaoke place usually requires a deposit, but we were fortunate enough to escape the deposit and even receive a discount - It's helpful when you have connections aha. You then usually receive a spending limit, and with so many of us we all only paid £20 each, which allowed us to spend time at karaoke as well as buying drinks. Although, we only found that in the last hour of karaoke that we had still a lot of money remaining to spend on drink (unfortunately, a large majority of us had gone home).
The best thing about karaoke is that you don't have to be the best singer in the world to have fun. Doing karaoke with your friends is a good way of socialising and coming together especially when you sing all together in a song you all know. For us majority of us knew One OK Rock's The Beginning, BIGBANG's Fantastic Baby and Psy's Gangnam Style (which even featured a large majority of us standing up and dancing to the song itself).
For me, I sang a large majority of Korean Pop songs, such as Ailee's Heaven, 2NE1's Lonely and SNSD's Gee. Although there wasn't just Korean songs available. One of my friend's sang Yui's Again, from the anime, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. There was also features of Chinese songs, as well as English songs such as Sia's Titanium (which happened to be my last song along with one of my friends as a duet), as well as Nicki Minaj's Super Bass. The karaoke provides us with a large variety of music to choose from, although I think it is only updated to about as late as 2013...?
Overall, I felt it was an awesome meetup - There was a lot of us and originally it was difficult to plan what to do other than doing our usual activities which includes the arcade (Las Vegas Soho Arcade). The budget per person was only about £20-£30 (excluding travel) and with a lot of content involved it was a great experience to participate with friends.
